An elusive owl emerging from darkness. Illustrated in glass and metal.
There’s a large stone pine tree a couple blocks away that houses two shy horned owls. For the most part they stay perched at the very top safely out of view. I’ve only been able to spot them on two occasions. And when I stumbled upon the sweetest vintage owl die I knew I had to pair it with enamel.
The enameled backdrop features textured copper that was painted with a black underglaze. The metal is then encapsulated in several layers of transparent enamel and fired multiple times.
The owl is attached with two brass micro bolts and screws (the screws are sealed with jewelry grade epoxy resin) and set in a sterling silver prong frame setting.
Materials used: copper, black underglaze, vitreous enamel, fine silver foil, sterling silver, brass micro bolts and screws.
20” sterling silver diamond cut chain with lobster clasps.
1.2” x 0.9”
