Museum Series: Continuity in Orange

$275.00
sold out

Museum Series II (Cairo Edition)

I spent five weeks in Cairo this summer. To escape the heat I mostly visited museums and took pictures of anything I was allowed to photograph.

I really wanted to end this year with a complete collection as a tribute to my love of archeology and museums. In a way it’s a form of time travel as curators transport us to another space and shows us that it’s all been done before.

This pendant is a continuation of work that was initiated a long time ago, and stands as a testament to our connectedness to one another. The image featured is a photo decal of an ancient shard of Mamluk pottery that I found at the Museum of Islamic Art in Old Cairo, and dates back to the 13th century AD. The goose portrayed on the bowl fragment has an exuberant energy that is infectious. The bowl is black and white, but as I transferred the image to enamel I used a bright color palette to match the joy and movement portrayed in the original piece.

The enameled element is set in a chunky sterling silver prong frame setting adorned with carnelian. The pendant hangs from a 20” sterling silver diamond cut chain with a secure lobster clasp.

One of a kind.
